Happiest Day of the Year

You may have heard of Blue Monday, the most depressing day of the year according to experts.

It takes place on the third Monday of January and is deemed to be such a dark, misery filled 24 hours for three main reasons.

Firstly, the Christmas holiday period is now just a faded memory.

Secondly, credit card bills from December start landing on our doormats. Reminding us of any festive excesses.

And finally – the middle of January is often a miserable time for the weather. Rain, cold, sleet, short days, long nights, frosty mornings – I’m depressing myself just writing this.

But enough of the gloom and doom folks because there’s an antidote to this Blue Monday malaise and it’s called July 14th.

And in stark contrast to its gloomy calendar cousin here are the three main reasons experts have declared it the Happiest Day of the Year.

It falls in the middle of the summer and the weather is usually good, at the very least the days are long, and the temperature rarely gets below 15c.

Holidays – the holiday season is around the corner. Two weeks in the sun is often just what the doctor ordered. Just the thought of a holiday has been proven to boost people’s moods.

Children – if you are a parent or a grandparent you’ll know how excited children get with the school break up on the horizon. Not only this but older kids are enjoying getting their GCSE and A Level studies out of the way. And during the school summer holidays there’s less traffic on the road, no school run rushes in the morning and a chance to spend quality time together as a family.

So, there you have it, it really is a great formula for a happy day.
